原文

子(zǐ)曰(yuē)：“年(nián)四(sì)十(shí)而(ér)见(jiàn)恶(wù)焉(yān)，其(qí)终(zhōng)也(yě)已(yǐ)。”

译文

孔子说：「一个人到了四十岁仍然被人厌恶，他这一生也就到此为止了。」

ENGLISH

The Master said: "One who is still held in contempt by others at the age of forty — for such a person, all is finished."

①见：被。 ②已：止，尽。

子曰：“唯女子与小人为难养也，近之则不孙，远之则怨。”
