子贡问曰：“孔文子何以谓之‘文’也？"子曰：“敏而好学，不耻下问，是以谓之‘文’也。”
译文
子贡问道："孔文子凭什么被赐予'文'这个谥号呢？"孔子说："他聪敏而又好学，不以向地位低于自己的人请教为耻，因此被赐予'文'这个谥号。"
ENGLISH
Zigong asked, "Why was Kong Wenzi accorded the posthumous title 'Wen'?" The Master said, "He was quick-minded yet eager to learn, and felt no shame in seeking guidance from those beneath him in station. This is why he was accorded the title 'Wen'."

①孔文子：卫国大夫，姓孔，名圉（yǔ），“文”是谥号。
